Lady Gaganaut-India’s Anthromorphic Artificial Intelligence Robot

Vyomamitra is an anthropomorphic robot set to test viability to send human-driven space programs in 2022 (as planned), and Artificial Intelligence, designed to mimic the features of a human being and test the essential survivability conditions are surely a good step on the part of ISRO.

Fruit Flies and Dogs were the first beings to fly space, than cat and rats followed them, although all the publicity went to Laika, the first dog to get out there, but now the times have changed, there is no longer need to send test animals into space.

ISRO named their spacefarer Gaganaut (Gagan+ naut), India’s first Gaganaut isn’t going to be human after all, but humanoid. The anthropomorphic robot named Vyomamitra, which has been unveiled by ISRO will fly two missions to test the technological environment which human Gaganauts will inhabit on India’s first demonstration of human spaceflight in 2022, as well as the systems and instruments that they would use. ISRO announced their space mission to be set in 2022, which will be focused on manned vehicle launching, which would need prior testing on different measures such as cockpit behavior, environment, technical tests, etc. among others.

But of course, Vyomamitra isn’t capable of testing all the crucial “humanly tests” such as breathable air, conditions to survive, etc., but she surely can issue commands, activate switches and, obviously, communicate with earth. Vyomamitra works on speech synthesis software and artificial intelligence, ISRO also presented her prototype at an event, she was perfectly capable of chatting with people, following instructions and response accordingly, in addition, future iterations will be able to give the company to human travelers at the loneliest frontier.

Earlier, animals were carried to space to tests essential systems for survivability, today, AI robots and systems such as Vyomamitra are dedicated to the same cause. Vyomamitra is designed to tests all the necessary details of the space vicinity, to decide the course of sending human probes into space in the future. However, using a humanoid robot is obviously more useful, because it can be used to replicate the behavioral and operational responses of a human. In addition, humanoids are designed not only for testing but also to assist humans in future missions and also to crew missions that are too prolonged or too dangerous for a human pilot.

Russian Roscosmos being one of the space program pioneers also tested in August 2019, the Russian space agency sent up the anthropomorphic robot Skybot F-850 to dock with the International Space Station. Although, the mission was put on deck due to some technical issues. The goals was to also provide opportunities to test and develop these technologies under circumstances that do not prevail on earth.

Artificial intelligence systems on earth are usually designed to work unlike human beings, to work and think like humans don’t, The space industry would value AI systems that are human-like, to stand-in for the crew. Vyomamitra represents one of the very first iterations of the AI in space, the development in space research can open gates to new possibilities and change generations to come in space flight.

Conclusion-Space the industry is one of the recent development in the history of mankind, entry of Artificial Intelligence in the space programs opens up newer horizons for developments in space researches onwards.
